How to Clean Oil Stains From Driveway Pavers

Do-it-yourself auto repairs and barbecuing on the driveway can both contribute toward oil stains on your driveway pavers. You might not think an oil stain is a big deal until you discover it quickly soaks into the paver stones. However, you don't have to live with ugly, oil-stained driveway pavers. You can get the stain off the surface and draw it out of the stone with the right stain removal supplies and methods.

Instructions

    • 1
Cat litter effectively absorbs oil and other liquid stains.

Cover the oil stain on your pavers with cat litter. Leave the litter on the driveway's surface for 20 minutes to absorb excess grease.

    • 2

Sweep the cat litter into a dustpan. Discard it in the garbage.

    • 3

Pour full-strength ammonia over the remaining oil stain. Sprinkle baking soda on top of the ammonia to form a thick paste-like substance.

    • 4

Lay plastic wrap over the ammonia and baking soda solution to cover it entirely. Allow the paste and plastic wrap to remain on your driveway pavers until it has dried.

    • 5

Remove and discard the plastic wrap. Scrape the dried paste off the pavers with a plastic scraper.

    • 6
Dishwashing detergent safely cleans stone surfaces.

Drizzle a few drops of dishwashing detergent onto the driveway surface. Wet a scrub brush and scrub the pavers to remove residue from the dried paste.

    • 7

Rinse your pavers with a hose. Allow the surface to air dry.
