How to Get Rid of Clothing Stains on Wooden Tables

If you leave damp or wet clothing on a wood table for too long, you will end up with stains that are similar to the water rings left by glasses. Fortunately, these are just surface stains that only affect whatever protective topcoat you've used on the table, such as varnish, lacquer or polyurethane. Moisture stains on wood can be effectively removed using common household items that you might find in your refrigerator or medicine cabinet.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Clean off any residual moisture with a dry, soft cloth. If there is dirt or other debris, dampen the cloth with a commercial wood cleaner containing lemon oil or orange oil and wipe the table down.

    • 2

Spread a generous amount of mayonnaise or toothpaste over the stain. If you use toothpaste, note that you must use a plain, white toothpaste. Do not use any product containing gel or any kind of abrasive crystals.

    • 3

Rub the mayonnaise or toothpaste into the wood using gentle, circular strokes. You can use your fingers or a soft, damp cloth. Wipe up the mayonnaise or toothpaste with a clean cloth. If the stains persist, repeat the process until they disappear.
