Removing Shoe Wax From Carpet

While shoe wax makes your footwear shiny, it leaves behind horrible stains on the carpet. Instead of panicking when you notice the shoe polish wax, take a deep breath and treat the stain carefully. The longer the shoe wax remains on the carpet, the harder it will be to remove the stain. Since shoe polish contains a mixture of ingredients such as dyes and turpentine, you may need to use more than one method to remove the stain from your carpet.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape the shoe polish wax off the carpet with a butter knife. Wipe the shoe polish off the butter knife with an old washcloth each time you scrape it off the carpet.

    • 2

Blot a dry cleaning solvent onto the shoe wax stain with a sponge. Continue to blot the solvent onto the carpet until it absorbs all of the liquid.

    • 3

Combine 1 tablespoon of ammonia with 1 cup of water in a bowl. Blot the ammonia solution onto the stain with a sponge until you remove it.

    • 4

Mix 1 tablespoon of vinegar with 1 cup of water if the shoe wax stain remains. Blot the vinegar mixture over the stain until you remove it from the carpet.

    • 5

Rinse the solution off the carpet with clean water and a sponge. Blot the moisture from the carpet with a towel. Place a fan in front of the wet carpet to help it dry.
