Removing Nail Polish From Wood Cabinets

Nail polish is ideal for jazzing up your fingernails, but when a swipe of the hand leaves some on your wood cabinets, you likely want it gone. Don’t just grab the first cleaner you can find and start scrubbing. It’s important to use the right cleaning products when removing nail polish from the cabinet to ensure you get the polish off without compromising the integrity of the wood.

Instructions

    • 1

Dab at the nail polish stain with a clean rag if it is wet. Avoid rubbing or you risk spreading the polish. If the polish has already dried, move directly to the next step.

    • 2

Scrape off as much of the remaining polish as you can with a plastic putty knife. If the putty knife alone isn’t working, soften the polish a bit by apply a rag moistened with hot water to the spot, then scrape again.

    • 3

Moisten a rag with denatured alcohol. Rub the rag gently over the polish stain until it is gone.

    • 4

Sand away any remaining polish with a #0000-grade fine steel wool pad. Put a few drops of lemon oil onto the pad and rub it gently over the nail polish just until it is gone.

    • 5

Wipe down the cabinets with a damp rag once all of the polish is gone to remove any residue.
