Removing Dark Spots on a Wood Floor

Choosing wood flooring for your home is a wise decorative decision. Wood flooring at once looks elegant and timeless, creating a warm, golden or honey glow for each room. While wood is a strong, durable building material, it's not invincible and can be quite vulnerable to a host of stains. If you have black stains marring your pristine wood surface, you don't have to live with them. They're usually caused by alkaline liquids staining and drying on the floor.

Instructions

    • 1

Dampen a soft cloth with mineral spirits and rub the black spots. This removes the wax surface coating the floor so you can better remove the stain.

    • 2

Pour white distilled vinegar into a spray bottle and saturate the stains. Allow the vinegar to penetrate into the wood floors for up to 20 minutes. You'll see the stains start to fade and dissolve.

    • 3

Wipe up the vinegar and the stains, using a soft soft. The stain will be completely gone or faded. If it's just faded, repeat with another coat of vinegar.
