How to Get Old Dirt Out of a White Taffeta Wedding Dress

Taffeta is a shiny, stiff fabric commonly used in wedding dresses and other women's formal wear. Traditionally made from silk, modern taffeta can be created from cotton, rayon or polyester. Taffeta is known for its rustling sound, which is due to a stiffening finish of gelatin, gum or resin. Silk taffeta is best dry-cleaned. Cotton, polyester and rayon taffetas can be gently machine washed in a mild detergent. As with all stain removal attempts, be sure to use a clean white cloth to avoid dirt and color transfer to your garment.
