How to Remove a Red Food Coloring Stain From Wood Cabinets

Food coloring contains very strong pigments that soak deep into your wood cabinets, where they can be tough to remove. If you catch the food dye stain early, you can remove it before it soaks too far into the wood. If not, you’ll need to use tough cleaners that will pull the stain from the wood and remove it. However, you may not be able to remove all food coloring stains.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak up as much of the food dye as possible with paper towels. Work from the edge of the stain toward the center so you don’t spread the stain. If the stain is very old, this process will not work to remove any of the stain.

    • 2

Add just enough water to 2 tbsp. of powdered bleach to make a thick paste.

    • 3

Spread the paste over the stain, and scrub with a brush. If the stain is new, the dye will be gone instantly. If it is old, let it sit several minutes or overnight.

Rinse the area with clear water, and dry it completely with a clean cloth. Use just enough water to rinse the area so you don't warp the wood with too much liquid.
