Unlike finished leather, suede is taken from the inside of the animal hide. It looks, feels and requires different care than smooth, finished types of leather. Suede is also more sensitive to certain substances such as oil. If you spill butter or other oil-based food on your suede leather couch, you can remove the stain if you act quickly. Absorb the stain without pushing it further into the couch and use a commercial suede degreaser to remove the oil without damaging the leather.

1
Sprinkle cornstarch over the oil. The cornstarch will immediately start absorbing the oil. Sprinkle until the area is completely saturated. Let it sit for an hour.
-
2
Sweep the cornstarch off the couch with the scrub brush. Apply light pressure and don't press the oil residue further into the couch.

3
Apply a commercial suede degreaser to a clean cloth and rub the oil spot if it's still visible. Work until the stain is gone.
-
4
Let the suede air dry completely before using the couch.
-
5
Brush the couch with a suede brush to restore the nap.
