How to Remove Hard Water Stains From a Stainless Steel Dishwasher

Stainless steel has a bright, pristine finish that complements modern décor. Because it doesn’t stain easily, it is a common material in many kitchen appliances such as dishwashers. However, hard water stains can mar stainless steel. Hard water contains a higher than normal amount of minerals, which are left behind when water evaporates from the stainless steel surface. Remove these spots with a mild solution that won't damage the stainless steel finish.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Soak a clean cloth in white vinegar. Rub the cloth over the hard water stains on the stainless steel until they are gone.

    • 2

If the spots are very old, hold the cloth over the stain for 10 minutes until it softens. Then buff the stain out with the cloth.

    • 3

Dip a scrubbing brush in the white vinegar if the stain is still visible. Scrub the stain until it is completely gone.

    • 4

Apply a dime-size amount of vegetable oil to a clean cloth. Buff the surface of the stainless steel until it is bright and polished. Buff off any excess oil with another clean cloth.
