How to Remove Burn Marks From Linoleum

Linoleum might appear to look like vinyl flooring, but it is made with natural components such as resin and wood particles. If you place something hot such as a cigarette, hot pot or mug directly onto the linoleum it can cause burn marks. If the linoleum actually melts or shows physical signs of damage, you’ll need to replace that linoleum tile or section. If not, simply remove the burn mark by grinding it out.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak the area with clear water. The water will lubricate the linoleum to prevent scratching.

    • 2

Rub the burn mark with superfine steel wool. Rub in circular motions until the burn mark is gone. Apply even but firm pressure to work out the burn mark.

    • 3

Mix 2 drops liquid dish soap with 1 cup hot water. Mix until the water is sudsy.

    • 4

Dip a sponge into the sudsy water and wring it out as much as possible.

    • 5

Rub the sponge over the area to remove any residue that forms.

    • 6

Dry the area completely with a clean cloth.
