How to Clean a ChapStick Stain From the Carpet

Wax and oils in ChapStick lip balm make it an essential item for avoiding dry, chapped lips in the cold of winter or heat of summer. While the ChapStick is beneficial to your lips, it creates a problem when stuck on your carpet. The waxy substance in the lip balm causes the stain to make a gooey mess that attracts other dirt and debris. To remove a ChapStick stain successfully, you must treat both the wax and color portions of the stain.

Instructions

    • 1
The dull side of a table knife helps remove gooey ChapStick.

Scrape ChapStick lip balm off the carpet with a table knife. Discard the lip balm in the garbage.

    • 2

Sprinkle cornstarch over the lip balm stain to absorb the oils. Leave the cornstarch on the carpet for 20 minutes before vacuuming it.

    • 3

Pour dry-cleaning solvent onto a clean cloth until it's damp. Sponge the carpet with the dry-cleaning solvent to remove any color from the ChapStick.

    • 4

Place 2 cups of warm water in a bucket. Add 1 tablespoon of dishwashing detergent and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Stir the ingredients until mixed well.

    • 5

Moisten a clean cloth with the dishwashing detergent and vinegar solution. Blot the remaining ChapStick lip balm stain until it's removed.

    • 6

Rinse your carpet by sponging it with a damp cloth. Absorb excess moisture in the carpet by pressing a dry cloth into the fibers. Allow the carpeting to air-dry completely. Fluff the carpet fibers with your fingers.
