How to Get Chocolate Milk Out of Carpets Once It Has Dried

Milk is a tough stain to work with because if you don’t remove it completely, it will begin to rot and smell putrid. Add to this the color of chocolate, and you have a stain that will require several cleaning solutions to remove completely. Always try to remove stains while they are still wet, as this will make the cleaning process faster. You can still remove the milk stain completely, even if it has already dried.

Instructions

    • 1

Blot a dry cleaning solution directly onto the stain. This will remove the color from the milk and will remove much of the stain, even if the milk has already completely dried.

    • 2

Mix 3 drops liquid dish soap with 1 cup water. Use soap that doesn’t contain harsh chemicals, color or scent.

    • 3

Blot the detergent solution directly on to the stain until it is gone. Complete this step even if the pigment is gone as milk stains are often invisible but will make the carpet feel dirty and smell bad.

    • 4

Mix 1 tablespoon ammonia with 1 cup lukewarm water.

    • 5

Blot the ammonia solution on the milk stain to neutralize and remove it.

    • 6

Mix 1 cup white vinegar with 2 cups water.

    • 7

Dab the solution over the stain. White vinegar is a natural product that will help neutralize any odors in the carpet. This is essential to making sure the milk residue doesn’t make the carpet smell bad. It will also help rinse out the liquid dish soap.

Mist water over the area and blot it dry with a clean cloth. Repeat the process until the area feels like the surrounding carpet. Leaving cleaning solution residue in the carpet can be just as bad as leaving a stain there.
