How to Get Rubber Marks From Tennis Shoes Off the Carpet

Carpets can be a big investment in your home and keeping them looking clean and pristine will help them last longer and look better. One way to do this is to ask guests to take their shoes off when they come in to your home. This will prevent the rubber form their tennis shoes from making scuff marks on the carpet. If this happens, use solvents that will dissolve the rubber.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak a clean cloth in acetone nail polish remover.

    • 2

Dab the acetone directly on the tennis shoe marks. Gently blot the carpet fibers without pushing the stain deeper into the carpet. Work from the edges of the stain toward the center so you don’t spread the mark.

    • 3

Mix ¼ tsp. liquid dish soap with 1 cup lukewarm water until the water is sudsy if the marks are still visible.

    • 4

Blot the soapy solution onto the stain with a clean cloth. Work from the edges of the stain toward the center until the stain is gone or is as light as possible.

    • 5

Apply a small amount of carpet dry cleaning solution to the stain if neither of the above solutions worked to remove the stain. Work until the mark is gone.

    • 6

Press a damp cloth over the area to rinse out the cleaning solution residue. Press a clean, dry cloth over to soak up the excess water. Repeat the process alternating between using a damp cloth and dry cloth until the carpet is completely rinsed and dry.
