How to Remove Melted Sugar From a Ceramic Stove

Cooking should never be intimidating, and experimenting in the kitchen is one of the funnest parts of learning this craft. Unfortunately, accidents do happen. Boiling sugar with water is a common task when making candy; if you do not watch it carefully, this mixture can quickly expand over the edges of the pot and turn into a melted and burned mess that is a combination of hard and sticky.

Things You'll Need

  • Soft cloths
  • Mild liquid dish soap
  • Miniature razor blade scraper
  • Kitchen scrubbing pad

Instructions

    • 1

Let the stove cool completely. Clean the ceramic stovetop with a soft cloth and a mixture of 2 parts warm water and 1 part mild dish soap. Remove as much of the sugar as you can by scrubbing firmly over the melted and burned area.

Hold the miniature razor blade scraper at a 45-degree angle. Scrape up as much of the sugar as you can. This should loosen most of the sticky and hardened substance from the stovetop.

    • 3

Dip the cloth into the soap solution again. Clean the stovetop to remove all of the scraped-up sugar residue. Apply a nickel-sized amount of dish soap to a kitchen scrubbing pad and rub firmly over the sugar that remains stuck to the stovetop.

Rinse the soft cloth in the soapy water and clean the stovetop a final time. Dampen a second cloth with plain water and wipe the stovetop to remove all of the soap. Let the surface dry before cooking again.
