How to Clean Up Scuff Marks on Vinyl Tile

Vinyl tiles have a smooth surface that can show scuff marks from shoes, rubber-capped chairs or rubber-backed mats. Some scuff marks are simple to buff out, while others are darker and require a strong solvent to completely remove. Choose a method and products that won't damage your vinyl tile.

Instructions

    • 1

Buff the floor by rubbing it with a microfiber cloth in circular motions. This will remove or lighten scuff marks.

    • 2

Rub a pencil eraser over the scuff mark until it is gone or until the eraser will remove no more of the scuff.

    • 3

Spray the area with water displacement spray, and let it sit for at least 10 minutes. Scrub the spray into the stain with an old toothbrush. Work until the stain is completely gone.

    • 4

Mix 1 tablespoon of trisodium phosphate with 1 cup of water, if the scuff is still visible. Scrub the trisodium phosphate solution into the mark until it is gone. Rinse the area with clear water, and dry it with a cloth.
