How to Get White Heat Marks Off of My Table

Setting a hot mug on your wood table causes the water in the wood to heat and swell. This causes a raised white ring on the table. You can remove these stains by applying some cleaning and conditioning cream. Be careful when doing this, however, as the wooden table can be damaged if you apply heat to it directly.

Things You'll Need

  • White baking soda toothpaste
  • Cloths
  • Cigarette ashes
  • Lemon juice
  • Superfine steel wool

Instructions

    • 1

Apply white baking soda toothpaste to the white heat mark in a thick layer on the table.

    • 2

Rub the toothpaste into the ring until it feels warm. Rub along the grain.

    • 3

Wipe the toothpaste off and repeat the process until the stain is gone or until it is as light as possible.

    • 4

Add just enough cigarette ashes to 2 tablespoons lemon juice to make a thick paste if you can still see the heat mark.

    • 5

Rub the paste into the heat mark with a piece of superfine steel wool. Rub along the grain until the stain is gone.

    • 6

Rinse the area with clear water and dry it completely with a clean cloth.
