How to Get Smashed Bananas Out of the Carpet

Smashed bananas can be difficult to fully remove from your carpet, and the remaining residue can rot and develop an awful smell. Clean the smashed bananas as thoroughly and as quickly as possible to prevent the smell. If, after cleaning, you notice that the smell or feel of bananas is still apparent, repeat the process until the carpet looks and feels new.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape and pick up as much of the smashed bananas as possible, using your fingers. Be careful not to spread the stain.

    • 2

Blot carpet dry-cleaning solution directly onto the smashed banana stain. Use as much of the dry cleaning solution as needed, but don’t soak the carpet backing, as the solution may wear out the adhesive. The dry-cleaning solution should remove much of the stain, but may not remove all of it.

    • 3

Mix ¼ teaspoon liquid dish soap with 1 cup lukewarm water.

    • 4

Blot the soapy solution onto the banana stain. Work it deeply into the carpet pile to remove all of the banana residue.

    • 5

Rinse the carpet by blotting it with a damp cloth, then blotting it with a dry cloth. Repeat the process until the carpet feels clean. Leaving banana residue on your carpet will cause it to smell bad, and the residue will actually attract more soil.

Let the carpet air dry completely before placing furniture back onto it and before walking on it.
