How to Get Red Wax Stains Off a Toilet

Candlelight adds ambiance to the bathroom when you relax in the tub. If melted, red candle wax has been dribbled on the toilet post-bath, you must clean it carefully to prevent damage to the toilet. Abrasive cleansers or metal cleaning tools will cause scratches in the finish on the toilet seat or lid. When you use the proper wax removal techniques and supplies, you can get a red wax stain off your toilet while maintaining the condition of the surface.

Instructions

    • 1
Soften wax with hot air to make it easier to remove.

Turn a hairdryer onto the lowest heat setting. Hold it at least 1 foot away from the red wax stain on your toilet.

    • 2

Aim the air flow from the hairdryer at the red wax until it's softened. Turn the hairdryer off. Wipe the softened wax off with a paper towel. Repeat this step to remove any remaining red wax from the surface of your toilet.

Vinegar cuts through oily residue left by wax.

Dampen a clean cloth with white vinegar. Lay the cloth over the leftover waxy residue to break down the oil. Leave the cloth in place for five minutes.

Scrub the surface of the toilet with the vinegar-soaked cloth to remove the oily wax residue. Dry the surface with another cloth.

    • 5

Spray all-purpose cleaner on the toilet surface and wipe it with a cloth to clean the toilet.
