How to Fix a Cherry Table With Hot Pad Burns

Cherry is an expensive type of wood that is just as susceptible as other types of wood to heat marks from hot pad burns. Hot pads will protect your table if they aren’t too old or worn, but even new hot pads will not protect your table from pots that are very hot. Burns can develop from these hot pads and hot pots. Remove them with a cleansing solution.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix cigarette ashes with lemon juice to form a thick paste that is the same consistency as toothpaste.

    • 2

Rub the paste into the heat mark on the cherry table in the same direction as the wood grain. Rub until the mark is gone or until you can’t remove any more of it.

    • 3

Wipe the cherry table with a damp cloth to remove all of the cream residue.

    • 4

Dip a piece of superfine steel wool in cooking oil.

    • 5

Rub the superfine steel wool over the wood and along the wood grain. Examine the wood after each pass to ensure that you aren’t removing more material than necessary. Polish or wax the tabletop as usual.

    • 6

Rinse the wood table with water and dry it completely with a clean cloth.
