How to Get Dry Latex Paint Off Concrete

Concrete is a porous material that easily absorbs and holds stains, including paint stains. Even latex paint, which you can normally remove with soap and water, will fill in the crevices of the concrete and stick there. Remove dried latex paint with chemicals that will dissolve the stains and remove them from the concrete surface. Be careful when using these chemicals, however, as they are toxic.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 cups paint stripper
  • Bucket
  • Baking soda

Instructions

    • 1

Pour paint stripper into a bucket.

    • 2

Add just enough baking soda to the paint stripper until it is thick enough to spread, about the same consistency as peanut butter.

    • 3

Stir the paint stripper paste with a wooden paint stirrer until it is smooth.

    • 4

Spread the paste over the latex paint stain on the concrete. The layer of paste should be one-quarter to one-half inch thick. Let it sit for 20 minutes.

    • 5

Scrape the paint stripper paste with a plastic paint scraper and discard it.

    • 6

Spread another layer of paint stripper if you can still see the latex paint stain. Let it sit for 20 minutes and scrape it off.

    • 7

Sprinkle scouring powder over the concrete area.

    • 8

Wet a scrubbing brush with clear water and scrub it over the concrete stain until the concrete is completely clean.

    • 9

Rinse the area with clear water and let it dry completely.
