Getting Acrylic Paint Out of Furniture Upholstery

Whether used for remodeling projects or art assignments, acrylic paint offers convenient application and a rapid drying time. Being water-based, it is easy to clean up. However, when acrylic paint spills on furniture upholstery, it is absorbed into the fabric and leaves a stain. Promptly remove the stain using common supplies.

Instructions

    • 1

Blot up fresh acrylic paint using white paper towels. If the paint has hardened, scrape off the dried paint fragments with a spoon.

    • 2

Moisten the remaining acrylic paint with cool water from a spray bottle. Let the paint stain soak for one minute.

    • 3

Blot up the moistened paint with fresh paper towels. Continue blotting until no further paint transfers onto the paper towels.

    • 4

Examine the furniture upholstery for lingering paint. If any traces remain, combine equal parts of dish-washing liquid and cool water in a container.

    • 5

Dampen a sponge in the solution. Dab the soapy sponge against the fabric until the stain dissolves.

    • 6

Moisten a cloth with cool water. Apply the cloth to the cleaned area until the soap is thoroughly removed. Do not leave any detergent residue in the upholstery.

    • 7

Blot the wet area with a towel to remove excess moisture.
