How to Clean Up a Laundry Detergent Spill on the Cement Floor

Spilling laundry detergent on any surface creates a messy stain. Attempting to clean the spill with any amount of water just makes the task worse. Spilled detergent makes a cement floor slippery, leading to the possibility of falls and injuries. To successfully clean up a laundry detergent spill on your cement floor, you must absorb the spilled detergent before you clean the cement.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour cat litter over the laundry detergent spill. Cover the detergent completely with the litter, adding more as the detergent is absorbed. Allow the litter to absorb the detergent for 20 minutes.

    • 2

Scoop the cat litter off the cement floor with a shovel. Repeat until the litter absorbs no more detergent. Sweep up the last application of cat litter to remove it entirely.

    • 3

Wipe as much residue as possible from the cement floor with dry paper towels.

    • 4

Moisten a scrub brush with water. Scrub the last trace of laundry detergent on the floor. Pour cat litter over the soapy lather to absorb it. Sweep up the litter after 20 minutes.

    • 5

Rinse your cement floor with a hose or bucket of water. Blot the moisture with rags to dry the cement. Allow the cement to air-dry the rest of the way.
