Removing Strong Odor From Leather

As a natural fabric, leather can soak up smells from the area around it. Once leather grabs hold of a particularly strong smell, it can be difficult to get rid of the odor. The natural odor of leather can also be overpowering for some people, and deodorizing leather items can be important if you are sensitive to certain smells.

Instructions

    • 1

Sprinkle baking soda on the area of the leather that is most in need of deodorizing. If the entire object needs help, sprinkle the baking soda evenly across the leather. Allow the baking soda to sit on the leather for at least an hour, though overnight is best.

    • 2

Brush the baking soda away or vacuum it away with a vacuum cleaner and attachments.

    • 3

Mix 1 part white vinegar and 2 parts olive oil in a spray bottle. Shake well to combine. The oil and vinegar separate quickly, so shake the bottle often to keep the two liquids combined.

    • 4

Spray the vinegar and oil mixture onto the leather and allow it to sit for a few seconds. Wipe the vinegar and oil away with a soft cloth. Repeat if the leather needs additional deodorizing.
