How to Get Tree Sap Off the Ceiling

Tree sap contains resins that create a tough stain that is hard to remove. Scraping the tree sap off your ceiling removes some of it, but it also spreads a very thin layer of the sap on the ceiling that you need to dissolve with a solvent. Be careful when cleaning your ceiling; you don’t want to scrape the paint or nick the ceiling surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape off as much of the tree sap as possible with a paint scraper. Be careful not to scratch the paint off the ceiling.

    • 2

Soak a clean cloth in clear water, and hold it over the sap residue for 10 minutes until the sap is softened.

    • 3

Dip an old toothbrush in water, and scrub it over the softened residue to remove it completely.

    • 4

Dip the brush in white vinegar if the sap is still stuck on the ceiling.

    • 5

Scrub the brush over the sap until it is gone.

    • 6

Blot an adhesive remover on the sap stain if you can still see it.
