How to Get Colored Pencil Off Walls

When children use colored pencils to create pictures, they sometimes neglect the paper and go straight for the wall. Finding the masterpiece can become frustrating, but you can remove the pencil marks without repainting the wall. When you treat the pencil stains, clean them carefully because you can accidentally scratch or remove the paint. After you remove the pencil stains, ensure that the little artist has an appropriate area in which to express creativity, other than your walls.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the colored pencil marks with an art gum eraser. Gum erasers consist of a coarse rubber and can remove pencil marks from large areas. Wipe the eraser residue off the wall as you erase the pencil marks.

    • 2

Sprinkle baking soda generously over a damp sponge. Wipe the surface of the wall to remove any remaining pencil stains. Wipe the solution off the wall with a damp washcloth.

    • 3

Apply a water-displacement solution directly onto the colored pencil marks that remain. Wipe the wall with a clean washcloth immediately.

    • 4

Rub non-gel toothpaste over stubborn colored pencil marks with an old toothbrush. Scrub the area gently to remove the pencil stains. Rinse the toothpaste off the wall with a damp washcloth.

Apply a dry cleaning solvent to a clean washcloth as a last resort. Rub on the wall with the washcloth and then rinse the wall with a clean, damp washcloth.
