How to Remove Set-in Ink Stains With Acetone

Nothing can ruin your workday like a pen explosion, ink staining your clothes. The best thing to do is immediately treat the stain; unfortunately, this is not always possible. While there are a number of commercial stain removers and old wives’ tales about removing stains, you can simple use acetone (nail polish remover) to treat it. It is important to treat the stain as soon as possible, even if not immediately. The longer the stain sits untreated, the harder it will be to remove.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a clean rag underneath the fabric, directly under the stain.

    • 2

Apply a small amount of acetone to a second clean rag.

    • 3

Gently rub the ink stain with the second rag in small circles. The ink stain will transfer to the rags. Repeat until the stain is lifted. Once lifted, wash the fabric as normal.
