How to Remove the Latex Enamel Out of Carpet

Properly preparing a room before you paint it will help prevent stains on the carpet. Laying drop cloths and ensuring they are attached to the baseboards will ensure that the carpet doesn’t get stained from your latex enamel paint. If you fail to do this, or if the drop cloth moves while you are painting, remove the latex enamel stains as soon as you can using solvents that will pull them from the carpet fibers.

Things You'll Need

  • Cloths

Instructions

    • 1

Blot up as much of the latex paint as possible with a clean and dry cloth. This is especially important if you’ve just spilled the paint. Work from the edges of the stain toward the center.

    • 2

Dab varnish remover directly to the stain and work until it is gone.

    • 3

Add three drops liquid dish soap to 1 cup lukewarm water.

    • 4

Dab the soapy solution directly on the latex enamel paint stain with a clean cloth. Work the solution to the base of the carpet fibers to clean it completely. Work until the stain is gone or as light as you can make it.

    • 5

Mix 1 tablespoon ammonia with 1 cup water.

    • 6

Apply the solution to the paint stain on the carpet. Work deep in the carpet and around the edges of the paint stain until the stain is completely gone.

    • 7

Mix 1 teaspoon white vinegar with ½ cup water.

    • 8

Blot the solution on the area to neutralize the soap residue.

    • 9

Rinse the area with clear water and blot it dry. Repeat the process several times to completely rinse the carpet.
