How to Get Rid of Tarnish on Aluminum Pans

Aluminum pans are lightweight and versatile, making them ideal for everyday use in your kitchen. After years of service, your shiny aluminum pans may start to dull and develop tarnish. This happens naturally over time. To keep your aluminum pans free from tarnish, you need to clean them regularly with a hot bath of vinegar and lemon juice. The acidity in the vinegar and lemon juice disintegrates tarnish and makes your pans look shiny and new again.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the aluminum pan thoroughly with hot, soapy water and a sponge. Remove all food particles and grease. Use a scrub brush if you have trouble removing stubborn, cooked-on food.

    • 2

Fill the aluminum pan with water. Add a cup of vinegar. Cut a large lemon into slices, and add it to the pan.

    • 3

Put the aluminum pan on a stove burner, and turn the heat to the highest setting. Let the water boil for 20 minutes.

    • 4

Scrub tarnish with a salt-coated lemon slice, if the boiling vinegar solution did not fully remove it. Wash the pan again with hot water and soap.

    • 5

Dry the aluminum pan with a soft towel each time you wash it, to keep tarnish from returning.
