How to Get Pen Stains Out of a Dryer With WD-40

A pen forgotten in a pocket might make it through the washing machine unscathed before creating a mess inside your dryer. The oil-based component of many substances, such as butter or mayonnaise, help break down a pen ink stain in your dryer. Rather than reach into the refrigerator, you can use a product commonly found in the garage, basement or work area of your home -- WD-40. By including the slippery, silicone component of WD-40 in the cleaning process, you can effectively remove the stain from your dryer without damaging the surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Run the dryer for two minutes to warm the inside. This helps soften the ink.

    • 2

Spray the ink stains with WD-40. Smooth a piece of plastic wrap over the ink stains.

    • 3

Close the dryer door. Allow the WD-40 and plastic wrap to remain on the ink stains overnight.

    • 4

Remove the plastic wrap and discard it. Wipe the ink stains with a dry paper towel to remove the loosened ink.

Cut through the oil-based residue by cleaning the dryer with glass cleaner.

Spray the inside of the dryer with glass cleaner. Wipe the surface with paper towels to remove the greasy residue left by the WD-40. Keep the dryer door open for 15 minutes to ensure the inside is dry.
