Magnesium chloride is often used as an ingredient in road deicers, commonly known as road salt. If you live in an area that uses road salt, you are probably familiar with what it can do to your car and anything else with which it comes into contact. It leaves a crusty, white film and can corrode any surface it touches. If you get magnesium chloride on any leather object, such as shoes or a coat, you will need to remove the stain as quickly as possible to avoid permanent damage to the material.
