How to Remove Rubber-Sole Shoe Marks From Carpets

Traipsing over a carpet with rubber-soled shoes can leave ugly black marks on the carpet. The marks can be highly noticeable, especially on light-colored rugs. Once the rubber marks mix with any moisture they soften and work themselves deeper into the carpet fibers. While avoiding the situation by banning rubber-soled shoes from your carpet area is the best solution, it's not always feasible. Luckily, It is possible to lift rubber-sole marks from your carpeting with a few common household products without causing any permanent damage.

Things You'll Need

  • 1/2 cup mineral oil
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap
  • White cloths
  • Non-acetone nail-polish remover
  • Towel
  • Books

Instructions

      Create a mixture with 1/2 cup mineral oil, 2 cups warm water and 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap. Stir the ingredients until they are thoroughly mixed.

      Dampen a white cloth with the mixture and dab at the rubber-sole stain. Continue to dab at the stain until it begins to lift away from the carpet. Do not rub the stain to prevent working the rubber deeper into the carpet fibers.

      Dampen a white cloth with non-acetone nail-polish remover. Dab at the carpet to remove the remainder of the rubber-sole stain.

      Rinse the carpeting well with cool water. Set a towel on the stain and weight it down with books. Allow the towel to remain and soak up the liquids for 12 to 24 hours.
