How to Remove Ink From Silver-Plated Flatware

Silver-plated flatware is susceptible to stains. The flatware can become covered in ink if stored in newspaper to protect it from corrosion. Removing the ink requires the use of a tarnish remover to lift off the ink without damaging the finish of the flatware. Baking soda can be used successfully as a mild cleanser. Baking soda eliminates ink stains and removes tarnish from the silver flatware.

Instructions

    • 1

Wet the sponge with warm water and squeeze 1 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid soap onto the sponge.

    • 2

Rub the sponge against the silver-plated flatware in an up and down motion to prevent scratching the surface.

    • 3

Rinse off the flatware with hot water and line the bottom of the cooking pot with aluminum foil.

    • 4

Microwave 1 quart of water for two minutes in a microwave-safe bowl and pour the hot water in the cooking pot. Add a 1/2 cup of baking soda and 2 teaspoon of salt to the cooking pot.

    • 5

Place the silver-plated flatware in the pot and place the lid on the pot. Leave the flatware in the cleaning solution for no more than 10 seconds. Use rubber gloves to protect your hands from the hot water.

Remove the flatware and wipe down the flatware with a clean sponge to remove the cleaning residue. Rinse the flatware under hot, running water and blot the utensils dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
