How to Get Rotten Apple Juice Out of Carpet

When apple juice is spilled on your carpet, it can begin to rot and smell. Prevent this by checking your children’s rooms and closets for spills frequently. Clean the stains as soon as you see them with solutions that will counteract the color of the stain as well as the smell. Test the cleaning solutions on a small area of your carpet first, however, as ammonia especially can damage some types of carpets.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap with 1 cup cool water.

    • 2

Blot the soapy water over the stain until the stain is completely saturated. Agitate the area with the cloth working the solution deep into the carpet fibers. This will help completely remove the stain.

    • 3

Sponge cold water over the stain to soak up as much of the liquid dish soap as possible.

    • 4

Mix 1 cup white vinegar with 2 cups water. White vinegar is a natural mild acid that will neutralize odors.

    • 5

Saturate the stain with the white vinegar solution by blotting it on the carpet fibers. Never pour cleaning solution directly on a carpet as it can damage the carpet backing.

    • 6

Mix 1 tablespoon ammonia with 1 cup water if you can still smell the stain or see it.

    • 7

Dab the solution on the stain. Ammonia is a strong solvent that will remove any rotten residue.

    • 8

Press a cloth over the area to soak up the cleaning solution residue. Mist the area with water from a spray bottle and blot it dry. Continue until the carpet is completely rinsed.
