How to Remove Wood Glue From a Table

Wood glue is specially formulated to seep into the wood pores to bond two pieces of wood together. If wood glue seeps or spills onto a table where it shouldn’t, you can remove it. But work as quickly as you can, as the longer you wait the more time the wood has to cure and harden. Because wood glue is strong, it can be tough to pry off without damaging the table. Always practice caution and common sense to ensure you don’t scratch the table.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a few drops of water on the wood glue until it is saturated.

    • 2

Turn a hairdryer to the highest heat setting.

    • 3

Hold the hairdryer over the wood glue to heat it. This will weaken its bond with the table.

    • 4

Pry off the wood glue with a plastic paint scraper. Be careful not to nick or scratch the table. If the wood glue doesn’t come off, continue wetting and heating it until it softens enough to remove.

    • 5

Sand the wood glue off if it still won't come off the table. Use fine-grit sandpaper and stop sanding once you reach the tabletop.

    • 6

Wipe the table with a damp cloth and dry it completely.
