How to Clean Spaghetti Sauce Off of Athletic Shoes

There's no way to look cool for your morning workout if your athletic shoes are covered in spaghetti sauce -- but with the price of a good pair of sneakers, replacement may not be an immediate option. You can restore your tomato-soaked athletic shoes to near-new condition without the potential damage cause by soaking or machine washing. As with most stains, the sooner you deal with it, the more likely you'll have success removing it.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the soiled shoelaces from the athletic shoes.

    • 2

Dissolve 1 cup oxygen bleach powder in 1 gallon warm water.

    • 3

Scrub the surface of the athletic shoes with a sponge dipped in the oxygen bleach solution. Do not saturate the shoes. Allow the solution to sit for 15 minutes.

    • 4

Dip a toothbrush in the remaining solution and scrub the shoes, concentrating on the stained areas and hard-to-reach spots.

    • 5

Wipe the shoes with a damp sponge to remove the oxygen bleach residue.

    • 6

Allow the shoes to dry overnight. Replace the shoelaces with a new pair.
