How to Get Makeup Out of a Blouse

Makeup stains are difficult to remove because they contain a combination of oils, dyes and other ingredients. The makeup needs to be treated as a combination stain to remove it from your blouse completely. You may have to repeat a stain removal technique to remove the makeup, depending on the severity of the stain. Treating the stain as soon as possible will help prevent it from becoming permanent. Save money by removing the stain with items in your home before you resort to a commercial product.

Instructions

    • 1

Sprinkle baking soda onto liquid makeup spills to absorb the moisture. Cover the stain completely and brush it off with an old toothbrush.

    • 2

Blot warm and soapy water over the makeup stain to remove as much of it as possible. Soap and water will work to remove most makeup stains.

    • 3

Pour rubbing alcohol onto a cotton ball to remove remaining makeup stains. Blot the stain with the rubbing alcohol until you remove it. Test the rubbing alcohol on a small unnoticeable portion of the blouse first.

    • 4

Apply a commercial pretreatment stain remover onto tough makeup stains before you launder the blouse. Follow the directions on the product so that you do not damage the blouse. Rub heavy-duty detergent onto the stain afterward and scrub on it with a sponge and hot water.

Launder the blouse according to the care label after you treat the stain. Inspect the blouse before you place it into the dryer to determine if the stain remains. Repeat the stain removal process until you remove the makeup completely.
