Getting Fingernail Polish Off of Marble

Fingernail polish has a tendency to get everywhere if you aren't careful or mindful of where you plant your feet and your hands as the polish is drying. Many surfaces can be difficult or impossible to clean once they've come into contact with fingernail polish. Marble tiles and slabs, for example, are highly porous. If you don't properly treat them with a sealant, they can be a real pain to clean, but it can be done, and with items you already have around the house.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any wet polish from the marble surface with a clean, dry cloth.

    • 2

Soak a few cotton swabs in acetone or fingernail polish remover and scrub the stained area to remove as much of the polish as possible.

    • 3

Create a poultice with mild powder detergent blended with hydrogen peroxide and water. Blend these together until you have something with the consistency of a paste.

    • 4

Cover the stained area with the poultice and place a warm, damp rag over the entire area. When the stain has been bleached out, rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean cloth.
