How to Remove Moldy Milk From Carpet

Milk can be a tough stain to remove. Not because the stain has a bright or strong color, but because if you don’t completely remove it, it will begin to rot and mold. Remove this moldy milk with cleaning solutions that will kill the mold and remove the milk residue. Test the cleaning solutions on a small area of the carpet to make sure it won't change the color or permanently damage the carpet.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix 1/4 teaspoon liquid dish soap with 1 cup lukewarm water.

    • 2

Dab the soapy water over the milk and mold stain. This will help initially remove the mold stain but it generally will not completely remove the stain. Blot the stain deep into the carpet fibers.

    • 3

Mix 1 tablespoon ammonia with 1 cup water.

    • 4

Blot the ammonia solution over the stain. Ammonia will kill mold spores and it will help remove old milk stains. Blot from the edges of the stain toward the center so that you don’t spread the milk stain.

    • 5

Mix 1 cup white vinegar with 2 cups warm water. White vinegar is a mild acid that will neutralize the milk odors.

    • 6

Dab the white vinegar solution over the stain on the carpet until the area is completely saturated.

    • 7

Press a cloth into the area to soak up the residue. Press a wet cloth over the area to rinse out the cleaning solution. Continue wetting and drying the carpet until it is rinsed.
