How to Get Lipstick Out of a Suede

While it may be beautiful on the lips, lipstick on suede can create an ugly stain that is often difficult to remove. Typical laundering solutions can’t be used, and scrubbing may damage suede, which means a creative approach to lipstick removal is a must. While there are several standalone options that may used to remove the stain, a multi-pronged approach combined with a little bit of patience will give you the best chance at success.

Dull knife
White cloth
Dry-cleaning solvent
Hairspray
Art eraser

Instructions

  Scrape off any excess lipstick with dull knife, wiping the blade clean after each pass to avoid restaining the suede.

  Apply a small amount of dry-cleaning solvent to the lipstick mark. Use a clean white cloth to blot the mark, using a fresh section of the cloth and additional solvent as the stain begins to transfer to the cloth. Repeat until the stain is gone or no longer absorbed onto the cloth.

  Spray hairspray on any remaining stain and allow it to sit for approximately 10 minutes. Use a clean white cloth lightly moistened with warm water to wipe the dried hairspray and stain away.

  Rub a brown art eraser lightly across the stain site to remove any residual oils and to freshen the suede nap.
