How to Get Hair Oil Off a Leather Chair

As your scalp releases natural oils throughout the day, they distribute into your hair. Over time, these oils transfer to other surfaces that come in contact with your hair. Your favorite hat, pillowcase and the surface of your leather chair are all places where hair oil can end up. While you can launder your favorite hat and pillowcase, you need a different approach with your leather chair. When it's left to build up, hair oil causes dark discoloration on leather. You can use supplies found around the home to draw the stain out of the leather surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour baking soda over the discolored hair oil stain on your leather chair. Leave the baking soda on the surface overnight.

    • 2

Vacuum the leather chair to remove the baking soda.

    • 3
Table salt and rubbing alcohol help dry up and remove oil stains.

Pour 1 tablespoon of table salt into a bowl. Add 2 ounces of rubbing alcohol. Stir the ingredients with a spoon until mixed well.

    • 4

Dip a clean cloth in the salt and rubbing alcohol mixture. Gently rub the solution into any remaining hair oil stain. Allow the mixture to sit on the leather surface for two minutes to absorb the rest of the oil.

    • 5

Wipe the salt and rubbing alcohol mixture off the leather chair with a dry cloth.

    • 6

Apply a nickel-sized amount of leather cleaner to a clean cloth. Rub the cleaner into the surface of your leather chair. Buff any excess cleaner off with a dry cloth.
