Removing Chocolate From Satin

Satin is a shiny fabric made from such materials as cotton, nylon and polyester. Once stained by chocolate, the fabric may be treated with common household items and laundry products to effectively remove the stain. Chocolate is considered a sugar stain and should be treated with cool water, since warm water sets such stains into the fabric. When cleaning chocolate stains from satin, avoid using colored cloths, which tend to run or bleed into other fabrics when moistened.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove excess chocolate from satin by gently scraping the stain with a spoon.

    • 2

Blot the chocolate stain with a clean, white rag. Avoid rubbing the rag into the fabric.

    • 3

Cover the stain with flour or cornmeal to absorb the greasy substance in chocolate, known as cocoa butter. Let flour or cornmeal set for about 1 hour. Brush from fabric with a soft bristle brush. Blot the stain with a white rag soaked in cool water. If stains are still visible, add 2 to 4 drops of mild liquid detergent to 1 cup of cold water. For dark chocolate, add 2 to 3 tablespoons of white distilled vinegar to the mixture. Apply the mixture to the stain and rinse the area from the backside of the fabric, so the water moves through the satin. Avoid rubbing the fabric.
