How to Remove Shoe Marks From Concrete

Concrete is a durable material made from combining cement with an aggregate. It is often used by homeowners to create an outdoor walkway or as flooring for the family garage. Even though concrete can withstand a large amount of abuse, it is not immune to stains. For example, scuff marks caused by shoes will show up on a concrete surface. A little bit of time and attention is all it takes to remove these marks.

Instructions

    • 1

Wear long pants and long-sleeved clothing, gloves and goggles. Be sure the area where you're working is well-ventilated.

    • 2

Cover the shoe marks with a water-displacing spray, such as WD-40 or Rocol. Wait two to three minutes for the spray to seep into the concrete.

    • 3

Remove the shoe marks by scrubbing in a circular motion with a scrub brush.

    • 4

Pour five-percent muriatic acid over any remaining marks.

    • 5

Scrub the muriatic acid into the concrete. Wait another five minutes for the acid to eat away at the scuff marks.

    • 6

Rinse the concrete thoroughly with water from a garden hose. Allow the concrete to air-dry.
