Getting Black Oil Out of Carpet

Whether there is a spill on the carpet or the oil was tracked in on shoes, you must tackle the problem properly to ensure the black oil stain doesn’t spread and your carpet gets clean.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any puddled oil with a spoon. Scoop up the oil carefully so it does not spread.

    • 2

Apply a thick layer of baking soda over the oil spot. The baking soda absorbs the oil from the carpeting. Allow the powder to sit on the stain for a minimum of six hours, then vacuum up the baking soda.

    • 3

Moisten a clean rag with club soda. Sponge the club soda onto the oil spot. Blot the area with a dry rag to soak up the club soda. Repeat sponging and blotting until no more black oil lifts from the carpet.

    • 4

Dab dry-cleaning solvent onto the stain with a clean rag. Blot the stain with a dry rag. Repeat this process until the oil is gone.
