How to Get Caked-on Stains Off of Porcelain

Porcelain is created when kaolin, a type of clay, is heated to temperatures in excess of 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit. The resulting, durable enamel is used for several applications, from bathroom sinks to ornate vases. Porcelain is tough, but is still susceptible to scratches and breakage when improper cleaning products are used on it, including harsh abrasives and acids. Remove caked-on stains from your porcelain items without damaging its lustrous appearance

Instructions

    • 1

Create a paste with 1/2 cup baking soda, 2 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide, 1/2 tablespoon liquid dish soap and 1/4 cup distilled water. Stir the ingredients and add more baking soda if the paste is too runny.

    • 2

Spread a heavy layer of the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide paste over the caked stain. Allow it to remain, and dissolve the stain, for 10 to 15 minutes.

    • 3

Work the paste into the stain with a nylon scrub brush. Continue to scrub the stain until it is completely broken away and removed.

    • 4

Wipe down the porcelain with a damp cloth to remove any loose chunks of the stain that remain.
