How to Clean Burnt Tile

Absentmindedly laying a hot pan or curling iron on a tiled surface may result in an unsightly scorch mark. Most tiles won’t melt or warp under the heat of these items, but certain hot items can leave scorch marks. You can remove surface burn marks with common household products found at grocery and hardware stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the tile’s surface with soapy water using a soft sponge or cloth to remove as much of the stain as possible. If a burn mark remains, you will need to use toothpaste or baking soda.

    • 2

Coat the stain with toothpaste or baking soda and allow it to sit for 10 minutes.

    • 3

Scrub the stained area with a soft-bristled toothbrush.

    • 4

Rinse the area with plain water and a clean sponge or cloth. If the stain remains, you will need to use sandpaper.

    • 5

Dip a piece of fine-grit sandpaper in water and gently sand the burn mark to remove it. Keep the surface wet to reduce scratches.
