Dry erase marker is designed to be easily erased from dry erase whiteboards, but the pigments in dry erase marker can and often do stain other surfaces, especially fabrics. Whether you accidentally smudge some dry erase ink on a pair of canvas shoes or have a child or teenager who has used a dry erase marker to draw on their canvas sneakers, it is possible to remove the dry erase marker stain. Act quickly, if possible, since dry erase marker becomes more difficult to clean the longer it sets.

1
Set the shoe on a clean towel. Place a small dab of spot remover or stain treatment gel on a clean white towel.
-
2
Pat the dry erase marker spot gently with the spot treatment. Work from the outside of the stain in to prevent the stain from spreading.

3
Dab at the treated stain with another clean towel. Continue dabbing as the dry erase ink transfers from the shoe to the towel.

If the stain is not fully removed, soak the shoe in a bowl with hot water and powdered color-safe bleach for 15 minutes. Rinse and wash again using laundry detergent. Add liquid bleach if the shoe is white.
