How to Remove Hairspray From Leather

Excess hairspray floating in the air can land on your leather jacket or leather couch. This can create a sticky and unpleasant film on the surface of leather goods that dulls their natural finish. This film is hard to remove from leather unless you use a leather-safe cleaning solution. There are commercially available products, as well as homemade remedies, that can restore your leather to its former state.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a leather cleaning product that is pH-balanced to work with leather goods. This ensures that it doesn't have a negative interaction with leather.

    • 2

Apply a small amount of the cleaner to an inconspicuous part of the leather item to ensure it doesn't damage the finish. Some leather cleaners are incompatible with suede and very soft leathers.

    • 3

Wet a dry cloth, and place a small amount of leather cleaner on it.

    • 4

Rub the cloth against the affected part of the leather until a light lather forms. Continue rubbing in a circular motion until the dried hairspray loosens and dissolves.

    • 5

Wipe away the lather with a wet cloth.

    • 6

Drag a dry towel across the surface of the leather.

    • 7

Apply a leather conditioner to the leather item to rehydrate and extend the life of the material.
