Removing Paint Spills From Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl floors are one of the most common and economical flooring options available. Although they require little maintenance beyond regular sweeping and damp mopping, they are still subject to staining and spills. Perhaps a recent kitchen update involving updating your kitchen cabinets has left splatters or dribbles of paint on your flooring. Although you might have to try different methods, paint spills are typically easy to remove from vinyl floors.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe wet paint with a white, clean cloth immediately after the spill occurs.

    • 2

Place a thin spatula underneath a dried paint spill, and carefully scrape the area until the spill is removed.

    • 3

Apply rubbing alcohol to a white cloth and gently rub the stained area if the paint is not fully removed with a spatula.

    • 4

Wet a white cloth with mineral spirits or turpentine and wipe the area if the paint spill is not removed with rubbing alcohol.

    • 5

Dab a small amount of acetone-based fingernail polish remover onto a white cloth and rub the area if it does not come clean with mineral spirits or turpentine.

    • 6

Clean the area with a floor stripper and cleaner specifically designed for vinyl flooring as a last resort. Apply the cleaner to a nonabrasive white scrubbing pad, and scour the area to lift the spill.
