How to Remove a ChapStick Stain After Drying

ChapStick leaves behind a greasy residue on clothes. Forgetting about a tube of ChapStick or laundering clothes with a ChapStick stain can make the stain difficult to remove completely. The heat from the dryer causes the stain to set. While it may seem impossible to salvage the clothing, you can treat the ChapStick stain to remove it from the clothing before you launder it again. Treat the stain as soon as possible so it does not become permanent.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape the ChapStick off the clothing with a butter knife if any chunks of it remain.

    • 2

Apply a solvent-based stain removal product to the grease stain after you remove it from the dryer. Read the directions on the product carefully before applying it. Blot the area with a washcloth until you remove the stain completely.

    • 3

Apply a heavy-duty liquid detergent to the stain. If you do not have a liquid detergent, combine an equal amount of powdered detergent with water to create a paste. Apply the detergent to the stain with a toothbrush.

    • 4

Launder the clothing with the hottest water setting recommended on the care label. Add your regular detergent to the load. Remove the clothing and hang it to dry to determine if the stain remains.

    • 5

Launder the clothing again with all-fabric bleach if the stain remains. Add chlorine bleach for stubborn stains on white clothes only. Read the bleach label to determine how much to add to the load.
