Instructions

  1. Gas Oven

    • 1

Let the oven cool completely. Turn the gas off by locating the shut-off valve on the back of the appliance.

    • 2

Remove the bottom plate from the oven with a screw driver. You may need to remove the oven racks in order to access the plate. Consult the owner's instruction manual if you have difficulty removing it.

    • 3

Place a freezer bag full of ice directly onto the oven plate. If you have enough room in the freezer, you can place the oven plate inside of it. Freeze the plastic for 15 to 20 minutes.

    • 4

Scrape the plastic off with a razor blade scraper. Hold the razor at a 30 degree angle and lift the plastic off to prevent scratching it. Freeze the plastic again if you have difficulty removing it.

    • 5

Clean the oven plate off with oven cleaner or ammonia. Replace the bottom plate.

    Electric Oven

    • 6

Allow the oven to cool down completely.

    • 7

Fill a freezer bag full of ice cubes. Place the ice directly onto the melted plastic until it becomes brittle. This may take about 15 to 20 minutes.

    • 8

Remove the plastic with a razor blade scraper carefully. Hold the razor at a 30-degree angle and lift the plastic off the oven with the razor. You may need to freeze the plastic again if it does not remove easily.

    • 9

Apply an oven cleaner or ammonia to any remaining residue.

    Self-Cleaning Oven

    • 10

Warm the oven on the lowest setting to make the plastic pliable again.

    • 11

Scrape the melted plastic off the oven with a wooden spoon or plastic scraper.

    • 12

Wipe the inside of the oven with ammonia to remove any remaining residue.

    • 13

Run the oven’s self-cleaning feature to remove any lingering residue inside the appliance. Consult the owner’s manual if you do not know how to use this feature.
